Center for Experimental Research in Social Sciences (CERSS), Hokkaido
University, invites applications for a two-year post-doctoral position
(renewable after 2 years appointment on a yearly basis). CERSS is an
active research center which applies various research perspectives from
social sciences, especially from social psychology and general

The Department of Psychology at the

behaviour, and evolutionary psychology

founded Courant Research Centre “Evolution
of Social Behaviour: Comparative Studies of Human and Non-Human Primates”

integrate contributions from primatology, anthropology and psychology
for analyses of primate and human social behaviour in a comparative,

International Max Planck Research School
The Life Course: Evolutionary and Ontogenetic Dynamics
(LIFE)
An international collaboration between three Berlin institutions (Max
Planck Institute for
Human Development, Humboldt University, and Free University), and two US
institutions (the
University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and the University of Virginia,
Charlottesville).
The goal of the Research School is the study of developmental changes in
human behavior over
evolutionary and ontogenetic time. LIFE takes an integrative and
interdisciplinary approach to
understanding human development in a changing world, connecting
evolutionary, ontogenetic,
historical, and institutional perspectives. The focus is on the
evolution and interaction of
individual and institutional (societal) development.
The target groups of the Research School are international post-diploma
or post-master's
graduate students who intend to pursue a doctorate in one of the
relevant disciplines
(evolutionary biology, psychology, educational science, developmental
neuroscience, cognitive
neuroscience, life course sociology). As a collaborative Research
School, LIFE offers students
unique training in the dynamics of human behavior on different time
scales and includes
opportunities for research abroad at a cooperating institution. The
training program involves
seminars, a series of academies, and collaborative supervision of

3-5 Doctoral Fellowships (2 years, with two 6-month extensions
possible)
The advertised fellowships will all be located at the three
collaborating institutions in Berlin,

participants, the doctoral degree
shall be granted by Humboldt University or Free University. Students
admitted to LIFE will
receive a monthly stipend of ca. 1,100 EUR.

The College of Arts and Sciences at
Indiana University seeks to fill
two positions, one associate professor and one tenure-track assistant
professor, both in the study of the evolution of human intelligence.
Areas of special interest include hominid palaeoneurology,
brain
imaging research pertinent to human evolutionary studies, evolutionary
psychology, or molecular neuroscience directly relevant to human
encephalization or language origins. Applicants must demonstrate a
strong research history and publication record focusing on the

Department of Anthropology invites applications for a position in
cultural anthropology beginning Fall 2008. This is a tenure-track
assistant professor position. The candidate's work should be empirical
and quantitative; ethnographic field work experience is essential.
Specialty is open, but a focus on evolutionary approaches to behavior
and culture, ecology, demography, economics, or reproduction is
preferred. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Anthropology (by Fall
2008), teaching experience, an active research program, and a
demonstrated ability to secure external funding. ABDs may be considered.
Responsibilities include teaching two courses per semester, at the
graduate and undergraduate level in the anthropology department.
Positive tenure and promotion decisions require a strong research and
publication record, evidence of high-quality teaching, and participation
in university governance. Texas A&M University is a leading public

Program Description
Several one-year fellowships support interdisciplinary research
projects related to neuroscience, culture, and psychiatry at UCLA.
Research should relate to the FPR's current topical foci, which
includes integrative research on neurobiology, culture, and emotion.
Fellows are also required to attend interdisciplinary seminars offered
by the FPR-UCLA Center for Culture, Brain, and Development throughout
their fellowship appointment. Fellowships are renewable for an
additional year, based on the evaluation of the previous year's
performance.

Postdoctoral position at Hokkaido University
Center for the Sociality of Mind at Hokkaido University, Sapporo,
Japan, invites applications for a two-year post-doctoral position.
Funded by the Global COE program of the Japanese Government, we aim to
promote research on human sociality with a particular emphasis on
experimental methodology. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in social,
psychological, or biological sciences. Besides participating in
various research projects at the Center, the postdoctoral fellow's
duties will include editing scientific articles and other English
documents for the faculty and students. The annual salary will be
about 3,600,000 yen (about 30,000 US dollars). The term and starting
date are negotiable, but we would prefer the earliest arrival after
October 1st of 2007. The Department of Behavioral Science at Hokkaido
University, which constitutes the core of the Center, is known
