Post Doctoral Research Fellow Position at Hokkaido University, Japan


Job Descriptions:
Center for Experimental Research in Social Sciences (CERSS), Hokkaido
University, invites applications for a two-year post-doctoral position
(renewable after 2 years appointment on a yearly basis). CERSS is an
active research center which applies various research perspectives from
social sciences, especially from social psychology and general
psychology, to use in research and education on "the relationships
between society and humans". We are seeking an enthusiastic postdoc
fellow who has a track record of conference presentations and
publications. The postdoc fellow is expected to do the following duties:

DUTIES:
(1)To assist and involve in a variety of research projects of the faculty
(2)To perform and develop independent research projects related to the
Global COE program “Center for the Sociality of Mind”

QUALIFICATIONS:
Ph.D or equivalent doctorate degree in psychology or in a social science
discipline (such as sociology, anthropology and economics).
SALARY: The postdoc position is funded by the Global COE program
“Center for the Sociality of Mind”. The annual salary is about 4,500,000
yen (about US $40,000), including taxes and social security, depending
on qualification and experiences. An additional research fund of 500,000
yen (about US $4,500) will be granted to the successful candidate.

The Department of Psychology at the University of Lethbridge invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin 1 July 2008, subject to budgetary approval.


Current departmental emphases are in cognition, animal behaviour, and evolutionary psychology
with research programs encompassing a range of phenomena related to human and animal social
behavior, aggression, sexuality and gender, risk-taking, and communication. We are now
interested in candidates in developmental psychology broadly construed, including
language acquisition, psycholinguistics, meta-representation and socio-cognitive
development, learning, perceptual development, emotional development, and cognitive
aging. We will also consider other applicants who can complement current social and
biological perspectives with research and teaching interests in social, cognitive,
ecological or cross-cultural approaches to human psychology. Candidates should have,

The newly founded Courant Research Centre Evolution of Social Behaviour: Comparative Studies of Human and Non-Human Primates” at the University of Göttingen invites applications for three

Independent Research Groups

The positions are available immediately, will be at the W1 salary scale, have a reduced teaching responsibility, six years of funding to build up an Independent Research Group and a tenure option (W2 or W3) depending on successful review after 3 and 6 years.

The goal of this research centre is to integrate contributions from primatology, anthropology and psychology for analyses of primate and human social behaviour in a comparative, evolutionary framework. Applicants with an outstanding research record focusing on either (i) sex differences and gender roles, (ii) cooperation and prosocial behaviour, or (iii) group coordination, leadership and group performance in humans and/or primates will be considered for group leader positions. This new research group explores the evolutionary psychology of human behaviour. In

particular, the successful candidate will form part of a research team that will be investigating

the importance of human movement parameters in various aspects of mate-choice. This

research forms part of a collaboration with researchers at Northumbria University (Newcastle

upon Tyne, UK) and will include a visit to Northumbria for several months for the purpose of

data collection and analysis.

Duties and responsibilities include: anthropometric measurements, creation of virtual human

characters (avatars) with the aid of 3D software, as well as conducting several rating studies.

Studio Max, Lightwave, Cinema 4D) and be fully competent with statistical analyses (incl.

the use of software such as SPSS, Systat, JMP). Knowledge of evolutionary psychology

DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP ANNOUNCEMENTS (BERLIN)
International Max Planck Research School


The Life Course: Evolutionary and Ontogenetic Dynamics (LIFE)

An international collaboration between three Berlin institutions (Max Planck Institute for
Human Development, Humboldt University, and Free University), and two US institutions (the
University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and the University of Virginia, Charlottesville).
The goal of the Research School is the study of developmental changes in human behavior over
evolutionary and ontogenetic time. LIFE takes an integrative and interdisciplinary approach to
understanding human development in a changing world, connecting evolutionary, ontogenetic,
historical, and institutional perspectives. The focus is on the evolution and interaction of
individual and institutional (societal) development.
The target groups of the Research School are international post-diploma or post-master's
graduate students who intend to pursue a doctorate in one of the relevant disciplines
(evolutionary biology, psychology, educational science, developmental neuroscience, cognitive
neuroscience, life course sociology). As a collaborative Research School, LIFE offers students
unique training in the dynamics of human behavior on different time scales and includes
opportunities for research abroad at a cooperating institution. The training program involves
seminars, a series of academies, and collaborative supervision of research training. Detailed

3-5 Doctoral Fellowships (2 years, with two 6-month extensions possible)

The advertised fellowships will all be located at the three collaborating institutions in Berlin,
Germany. Depending on participants’ schedules, the Research School will commence in April
or October 2008. Working language is English. For the Berlin participants, the doctoral degree
shall be granted by Humboldt University or Free University. Students admitted to LIFE will
receive a monthly stipend of ca. 1,100 EUR.
Requirements: Applicants should hold, or anticipate receiving very soon as shown in supporting
documents, a master's degree, diploma or equivalent in one of the relevant fields. The Research

The College of Arts and Sciences at Indiana University seeks to fill
two positions, one associate professor and one tenure-track assistant
professor, both in the study of the evolution of human intelligence.


Areas of special interest include hominid palaeoneurology, brain
imaging research pertinent to human evolutionary studies, evolutionary
psychology, or molecular neuroscience directly relevant to human
encephalization or language origins. Applicants must demonstrate a
strong research history and publication record focusing on the
evolution of human intelligence. Applicants should indicate whether
their tenure home preference would be in the Department of
Anthropology, Biology, or Psychological and Brain Sciences. The
successful candidates are expected to maintain close research

Specialty is open, but a focus on evolutionary approaches to behavior and culture, ecology, demography, economics, or reproduction is preferred. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Anthropology (by Fall 2008), teaching experience, an active research program, and a demonstrated ability to secure external funding. ABDs may be considered. Responsibilities include teaching two courses per semester, at the graduate and undergraduate level in the anthropology department. Positive tenure and promotion decisions require a strong research and publication record, evidence of high-quality teaching, and participation in university governance. Program Description
Several one-year fellowships support interdisciplinary research
projects related to neuroscience, culture, and psychiatry at UCLA.
Research should relate to the FPR's current topical foci, which
includes integrative research on neurobiology, culture, and emotion.
Fellows are also required to attend interdisciplinary seminars offered
by the FPR-UCLA Center for Culture, Brain, and Development throughout
their fellowship appointment. Fellowships are renewable for an
additional year, based on the evaluation of the previous year's
performance.

Postdoctoral position at Hokkaido University


Center for the Sociality of Mind at Hokkaido University, Sapporo,
Japan, invites applications for a two-year post-doctoral position.
Funded by the Global COE program of the Japanese Government, we aim to
promote research on human sociality with a particular emphasis on
experimental methodology. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in social,
psychological, or biological sciences. Besides participating in
various research projects at the Center, the postdoctoral fellow's
duties will include editing scientific articles and other English
documents for the faculty and students. The annual salary will be
about 3,600,000 yen (about 30,000 US dollars). The term and starting
date are negotiable, but we would prefer the earliest arrival after
October 1st of 2007. The Department of Behavioral Science at Hokkaido

The Ethnographic Database Project (EDP) is a web-based interface for the standardisation of comparative ethnographic data. The EDP enables anthropologists to enter information about their field research using a set of standard codes developed for cross-cultural application.
