Welcome to HBES Virtually Everywhere!

The host and program committees of #HBES2021 are excited to engage our members in an action-packed, fully customized, online conference experience. Here, you will find all of the information you need to join us Virtually Everywhere this summer!

HBES 2021 will take place June 24 – July 2. To avoid computer burnout, the conference days will be shorter than usual (~4 hours), but spread out over more days than our typical in-person meetings. Meeting times will vary by day to help accommodate various time zones.

Conference dates and times:

Times subject to change on final program

TR June 24, 12pm – 4pm EDT

FR June 25, 12pm – 4pm EDT

HBES Virtually Everywhere will be hosted on the ohyay platform and is a fully-customized online conference where you can 1) grab a coffee with colleagues before heading to a talk, 2) sing karaoke with your friends, or 3) discuss future collaborations at the hotel bar!

For the best virtual experience, we recommend all attendees use Chrome on a plugged-in computer, and strongly encourage the use of headphones so that everyone has a better auditory experience.

We look forward to seeing you all!

The Program Committee: Aaron Lukaszewski, Jaimie Krems, Anne Pisor, Cari Goetz
The Host Committee: Coren Apicella, Chris von Rueden, Nicole Barbaro

Three conference awards will be presented at the 2021 Human Behavior and Evolution Society conference: the New Investigator Award, which is awarded to a graduate student (or someone who defended their Ph.D. in 2019 or 2020), the Post-Doctoral Research Award, which is awarded to an individual who received their PhD within the past 6 years (no earlier than 2015), and the Best Poster Award, which is awarded to the individual who presented the best poster at the HBES conference. To be eligible for the New Investigator or Post-Doctoral Awards, individuals must submit a manuscript corresponding with the abstract they have submitted for a talk. Your manuscript can have co-authors, but you must be the first author on the manuscript, and the manuscript must predominantly describe your own work. Note that the manuscript can be “in prep” (e.g., a pre-print), under review, or accepted for publication. A committee will review all eligible manuscripts and select three finalists for each award. These three finalists will give talks in a single session during the conference. Award winners will be selected based on these talks, and awards will be presented at the end of the conference. Note that individuals who submit as part of a symposium can also be considered for an award. All posters will be eligible for the Best Poster Award. You need not contact us to be considered for the Best Poster Award. Manuscripts should be submitted together with the abstract (there will be an option to upload the manuscript in the abstract submission form), and they must be received by April 23, 2021. Please note that HBES also will award Society Awards (Early Career Award, Lifetime Career Award, and the Margo Wilson Award) at the conference. These awards are made by committees appointed by the Executive Council and the EHB Editor. More information about these awards can be found here.
