PhD Bursaries – University of Portsmouth

The University of Portsmouth (UK) Department of Psychology is offering bursaries linked to the following research areas:

  • Comparative and Evolutionary Psychology
  • Forensic Psychology
  • Quality of Life, Health and Wellbeing
  • Situated Action and Communication

Successful applicants will be awarded a University Bursary Stipend of £14, 057 p.a. (for 16/17) for up to 4 years. Full Home/EU fees will be paid by the University. Holders of University Bursaries are expected to contribute up to 6 hours a week, including teaching, to support their department.

The University of Portsmouth (UK) Department of Psychology is engaged in exciting world-leading research. Eligibility:
The bursaries are offered for full-time, Home or EU candidates only. You will need to meet the following requirements to undertake a research degree at the University of Portsmouth:

A good honours degree or equivalent in a relevant subject or a Master’s degree in an appropriate subject. Exceptionally, equivalent professional experience and/or qualifications will be considered.

For those students without English as a first language or without a first degree from an English speaking University, an English Language Proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 with no component score below 6.0 is required.

How to apply:
If you would like to apply for one of these bursaries you will need to complete our online application form and include a c.v., personal statement and a research proposal.

Applicants should submit a short research proposal (3 to 5 pages), providing the background to the proposed research and an outline of the studies. Although topics are not prescribed, the proposed research should relate to one of the above research areas. Please contact potential supervisors for your research before submitting your application, so that they can help you refine your proposal. Each PhD student has a team of three supervisors, and these should be identified in your application (on the advice of your potential first supervisor). It is crucial that we match applicants to staff with appropriate expertise and supervisory experience. We are also keen to include new members of staff in our supervisory teams. The closing date for applications for the 2016 bursaries is 5pm Sunday 3 April 2016. Interviews for short listed candidates are expected to take place between 18 April and 29 April 2016.
