This post has been created as part of an international project: ‘ALIGNED quality-centric software and data engineering’. This Horizon2020-funded project brings together an interdisciplinary team of computer scientists, software engineers, historians, archaeologists and social scientists from around the world.  This post will focus on the testing of cultural evolutionary hypotheses  via statistical analysis of historical and archaeological data collected for over 400 polities from the past 5000 years as part of the Seshat: Global History Databank project (http://seshatdatabank.info/).

Your duties will involve designing statistical models and arranging data analysis, contributing to research publications, and presenting and discussing findings at national and international academic meetings.

You must hold a PhD in a relevant discipline and have relevant experience, particularly in testing rival hypotheses with data, and writing code in R. You must have excellent communication skills, and an understanding of complex data structures with non-independent observations/data points due to historical relationships, and/or spatial or temporal autocorrelations.
