The Foundation’s Life Sciences department seeks to advance basic scientific research on fundamental questions in biology, particularly ambitious ideas that are undervalued by traditional funding sources. The department’s $60 million of active projects are located around the world and represent a range of topics including origin of life, its evolution, and humanity’s place and future within nature. Current strategic priorities include the science of purpose, cultural evolution, and intellectual humility. The Life Sciences department also manages the Genetics portfolio, which supports contrarian basic and applied biomedical research aimed at minimizing future poverty and sickness. It seeks to identify and support contrarian ideas that challenge established paradigms, and has as a current emphasis the epigenetic transgenerational inheritance of disease.

To advance the Foundation’s mission and strengthen our team, the Foundation is seeking a Program Officer for Life Sciences. The Program Officer will work with the Director of Life Sciences to develop new initiatives that advance current and future strategic priorities. They will also recruit and review grant proposals, communicate with applicants and grantees regarding the application and review process, and collaborate with our evaluation team to determine the impact of our grants.

Part-Time Statistical and Data Consultant Position at UCLA

The Geography of Philosophy Project (https://www.geographyofphilosophy.com/), funded by the John Templeton Foundation, seeks a part-time statistical and data analysis consultant for a period of one year, with the possibility of a renewal for an additional year and a half. The consultant would help to develop and run statistical models of cross-cultural survey data, and assist with analysis and write-up of results for project publications. The position includes co-authorship on all publications contributed to, as well as a consulting fee. Estimated workload is between 5 and 10 hours per week. The position is open at any level post-PhD. A record of modeling experience in quantitative social science, life sciences, or statistics required. 3-year Post-doc Opportunity at Aarhus University

The Department of Political Science at Aarhus BSS, Aarhus University, invites applications for a 3-year postdoctoral position offering applicants an exciting opportunity to join a research project with a focus on political hostility on social media.

The research project
The position is part of the ROPH project (Research on Online Political Hostility), led by Professor Michael Bang Petersen and funded by 15.7 million DKK by the Carlsberg Foundation. The ROPH project seeks to identify the causes, consequences and potential counter-strategies related to online political hostility and gathers researchers from the fields of political psychology, evolutionary psychology, radicalization research, media science and physics.

Job description
The advertised position involves developing and conducting laboratory and online experiments to identify the psychological consequences (and relevant mechanisms) of discussing politics on social media relative to face-to-face discussions. Research will primarily be carried out collaboratively with other project members but there will also to some extent be opportunities for pursuing independent work within the focus of the project. The project includes funding for research assistants, data collection, traveling and workshops.

In addition to the outlined research tasks, the position entails teaching equivalent to one course per year. Depending on the applicant’s prior teaching experience and the need for the applicant’s teaching capacity in the relevant years, a one-year extension in return for additional teaching might be negotiable. This extension will be decided by the Department Chair no later than one year after employment. Salary is according to the Danish pay schedule.

The Research Fellow will develop, conduct and manage laboratory based cognitive and behavioural experiments with human participants at the University of Portsmouth. The experiments will focus on social interaction, nonverbal behaviour and facial expression processing. The Research Fellow will use the Facial Action Coding System (FACS) and Social Network Analysis and conduct statistical analysis on the data using R. The Research Fellow will work closely with a PhD student and Research Associate on the project as well as other staff in a large inter-disciplinary research team. The goal for this part of the project is to conduct a series of behavioural and cognitive experiments as a comprehensive analysis of individual differences in facial expressivity.
