Baylor University seeks to fill the following tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Anthropology within the College of Arts & Sciences: Assistant Professor of Anthropology.

This position is open to applicants with research and teaching interests in human genetics, including molecular anthropology, genetics of modern diseases, genetic epidemiology, evolutionary/population genetics, behavioral genetics, epigenetics, the microbiome, ancient DNA, bioinformatics, and all related topics. Preference will be given to those who use genetic methods to study human health, and who are capable of teaching laboratory-based courses to undergraduate and graduate students. Someone with a combination of active field and laboratory research is preferred. The candidate should possess an earned doctorate (at the time of appointment) in an appropriate field of study.

The new faculty member will join a growing department with interest in applied perspectives on the anthropology of health, broadly conceived. Interest in contributing to a new PhD program (in the Anthropology of Health) is required, and skills appropriate for training graduates for non-academic jobs are preferred. Faculty members are required to contribute to teaching, research, and service. Expectations for an active research agenda include publishing and granting, as well as involving students as appropriate.

Assistant Professor of Evolutionary Psychology Opening at University of New Mexico

The Department of Psychology at The University of New Mexico (UNM) invites applications for an Evolutionary Psychology position at the Assistant Professor level for a full-time, tenure-track appointment targeted to begin August 1, 2020.   Candidates must have earned a doctoral degree in Psychology or a related discipline at the time of appointment and a demonstrated interest in Evolutionary Psychology are considered minimum qualifications for this position.

Successful candidates for this position will be expected to teach and mentor at the undergraduate and graduate levels. We are particularly interested in a candidate who will complement existing areas of strength and research interests within the department, including (but not limited to) individual differences, physiology and neurobiology, developmental processes, psychopathology, and human sexuality. A track record of external funding and/or potential to obtain external funding is also desirable. The successful candidate will have numerous opportunities for collaboration within the Psychology Department, with the Anthropology Department, and with several thriving research centers affiliated with UNM, including the Psychology Clinical Neuroscience Center; the Mind Research Network; the Brain and Behavioral Health Institute; and the UNM Health Sciences Center. Call for abstracts: Cognition, Behaviour & Evolution Network meeting 14-15 Nov 2019

The Cognition, Behavior & Evolution Network (CBEN) brings together scholars from evolutionary psychology, behavioral ecology, human biology, primatology, philosophy, and cultural evolution. Founded in 2015, CBEN facilitates research and education regarding evolution of cognition and behavior. CBEN is based in The Netherlands and Belgium but we welcome scholars from other countries to join us.

We organize an annual conference in the Fall semester. This year we welcome everyone to the University of Amsterdam on Thursday 14 and Friday 15 November 2019. The central theme of this year’s conference will be “The Costs and Benefits of Sociality”. We especially welcome submissions that fit this year’s theme from evolutionary, behavioral, and cognitive perspectives. Yet, we also welcome scholars from other subfields to present their work either as an oral presentation or a poster presentation. We have very exciting keynote speakers, who are world-class researchers on this topic: Simon Gächter, Joan Silk and Cecile Sarabian. Call for Abstracts: 2nd annual meeting of the Australasian Society for Human Behaviour and Evolution

Registration is now open for EPinOz 2019 – the second annual meeting of the Australasian Society for Human Behaviour and Evolution (https://www.ashbe.org/). It will be held 6th December, in the UNSW Business School (Kensington Campus, UNSW).

Registration is free and will include morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea for the day. We will also have prizes for Best Student Presentation.

Students and faculty are strongly encouraged to attend and present (non-presenting attendees are also very, very welcome!). We invite presentations from any field related to the study of human behaviour from an evolutionary perspective (including evolutionary psychology, anthropology, and behavioural ecology, including from presenters working on non-human species, with direct implications for understanding the evolution of human behaviour).

The conference will be followed by post-conference drinks / food at the Coogee Pavilion.

HBES General Funding Grant Proposals Due November 1st

HBES members:

We are soliciting proposals for the HBES General Funding Grant, which are due November 1st 2019. The General Funding Grant is intended to subsidize costs associated with hosting events such as conferences and pre-conference meetings, workshops, and other activities or educational opportunities related to the mission of HBES.

HBES will fund proposals of up to $5,500 (we do not fund honoraria).

Priority is given to proposals that:

  1. benefit junior scholars (and, especially students) either directly, through subsidizing travel and cost of attendance to events or, indirectly, through educational opportunities afforded by the funding;
  2. have a broad, wide-reaching impact; and
  3. support is not easily available through other channels.

Applicants are eligible to apply for the General Funding Grant if they are current, active members (at any level) of HBES at the time they apply for funding.

ASU Interdisciplinary Study of Cooperation Winter School

The ASU Interdisciplinary Study of Cooperation Winter School
Cooperation is an inherently interdisciplinary topic, and one that can only be effectively studied through multiple methods and with the engagement of diverse scholars across many disciplines. The ASU Interdisciplinary Study of Cooperation Winter School provides a forum for learning about the fundamental processes underlying cooperation across diverse systems and disciplines including Psychology, Evolutionary Biology, Anthropology, Sociology and Computational Modeling. Through lectures, seminars and small tutorial sessions, students in the Winter School have the opportunity to learn from leading cooperation researchers, build new skills and develop projects.

Who can attend
The ASU Interdisciplinary Study of Cooperation Winter School is aimed at graduate students and postdoctoral fellows but is also open to advanced undergraduates and early career faculty in any disciplinary field. Approximately 20 students will be accepted into this winter school.


Costs
The registration fee of $550 includes attendance at all presentations, tutorials, lodging during the school and most meals. We are able to offer this low registration fee to students because of funding provided by the Interdisciplinary Cooperation Initiative at ASU and the President’s Office. In addition to this subsidized registration fee, additional monetary assistance is available for students with financial need. Students who are accepted into the summer school will have the opportunity to apply for travel grants ($300 domestic, $500 international) and discounted registrations ($300 off the regular registration cost) if they are unable to cover the costs of attendance.

Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Psychology Position at University of Colorado Boulder

The Department of Psychology and Neuroscience at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for a tenure-track position in Social Psychology at the Assistant Professor level to begin Fall 2020. We are particularly interested in applicants who study Psychosocial Resilience, encompassing social, relational, or individual factors that allow a person to preserve well-being and health in the face of psychological, physical, or social threat, broadly construed. To build on department strengths and promote inclusiveness, we are particularly interested in hiring an individual who examines resilience in the context of diversity (e.g., ethnic/racial, sexual/gender identity, economic status, or disability), as well as the intersection of social, cognitive, and mental or physical health processes. Candidates with strong quantitative skills and the ability to teach quantitative courses and/or strong neuroscience skills will be favorably considered.

(1) DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY, OKLAHOMA STATE UNIVERSITY is seeking an outstanding scientist to fill one full-time, Assistant Professor, tenure track position in Psychology beginning August 2020, with an area of specialization in biopsychology. Candidates must have a strong background and research expertise in the biological bases of behavior, broadly defined (e.g., genetic contributions to behavior, psychoneuroendocrinology, cognitive or social neuroscience). We prefer candidates with expertise that will contribute to a new interdisciplinary center housed in the Department of Psychology, the Oklahoma Center for Evolutionary Analysis (OCEAN). OCEAN fosters cross-cutting research, training of future research faculty, and educational outreach through the associated annual conference.
